Maragogype is a rare varietal that is also known as the elephant bean due to its unusual size. This Maragogype comes from Huehuetenango and is produced by Wilmar Castillo at Finca Vista al Bosque. The high altitude allows for high density in this giant bean. We roast this bean to City+ to preserve the floral and citrus notes while bringing forward the chocolates and caramels that darker Huehuetenango roasts are known for.
Wilmar Castillo began working coffee farms at age six alongside his father and brothers. Eighteen years ago he moved his family to the Hoja Blanca valley and purchased Vista Al Bosque — the farm overlooking the forest — a dream fulfilled, now carried forward with his son.
